do their jobs every day.As a Materials Engineering Co-Op from Fall
2023 to Fall 2024, you will assist in the planning, executing, and
finalizing projects, programs, and materials according to deadlines
and within budget. This co-op will allow you to gain a holistic
understanding of project management while allowing you to build
your network through key relationships with sales, engineering,
manufacturing, legal, and finance functions.YOUR IMPACTAs a
Materials Engineering Co-Op, you will support engineers in material
characterization, failure analysis, material selection, and
research projects by means such as the following:
- Maintain clean, organized, and operational laboratory space,
equipment, and instruments.
- Use tools and equipment to disassemble and section large
components/assemblies for analysis
- Section, mount, polish, and etch metallographic samples
- Document and characterize components using photography,
microscopy, and fractography
- Perform microstructural interpretation of various metal
alloys
- Use material characterization instruments to determine
composition of metallic and nonmetallic materials
- Use testing equipment to determine physical and mechanical
properties of metallic and nonmetallic materials, including tensile
properties and hardness
- Monitor corrosion and environmental exposure testing, evaluate
performance of coating systems
- Use scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and related analytical
techniques (EDS, EBSD)
- Analyze test results and data to determine conformance to
industry standards and/or engineering drawing specifications
- Communicate findings orally and through technical report
writingMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Student in sophomore standing or greater working towards a
degree in Materials Science Engineering or a related field.
- Be willing to relocate to Oshkosh, WI for the duration of the
co-op. Oshkosh Corporation will provide a travel stipend for any
co-ops that need to relocate.STANDOUT QUALIFICATIONS
